These abalone shells were collected and the mollusk was harvested. They then took these shells, cut them into various shapes, and polished them to show off the gorgeous iridescence of each shell. The added earring hooks allow us to show them off to the world. The term abalone is derived from the Rumsen word aulun, and anthropologists have found the remains of abalone shells in middens (ancient shell mounds) that date back at least 12,000 years.
