Hemimorphite gets its name from the word hemimorphic, which describes a crystal that has terminations of different shapes and can be found in bladed or botryoidal form. Typically found near zinc deposits with smithsonite, the two used to be grouped together under the name calamine until it was discovered that they resembled each other. Georgia calls these specific specimens “hemimorfrauds” and the reason why makes these hemimorphite a unique add to your collection.

These beauties took the mineral world by storm when this pocket was revealed to the world. People clammored to get pieces from this “new find”. Prices skyrocketed for everyone attempting to get specimens from a locality well-known for it’s bladed formation. Everyone was enamored by the bright blue color and even normal testing couldn’t tell that they used denim dye to artificially color this pocket. After it was found out these were dyed specimens, prices dropped drastically which is how we can offer you these special pieces of mineral history.
