Diopside is a more common member of the pyroxene group: characterized as a group of inosilicate (chain silicat) minerals with similar general formulas.

It often occurs in metamorphosed limestones as generally pale greenish to greyish green crystals. It can also be pure white and not distinguishable from its host.
