Shells are beautiful no matter what their age. The formation of them happens over time while the animal inside grows in tandem. Shells can get very large, but not all of them grow that large. These shells were formed a long time ago; they were buried as the oceans have ebbed and flowed, and they fossilized over the years. Each one will show you portions of the rock they were imbedded in as they calcified. But, as an added bonus, a quartz solution was introduced at some point which gave them a druzy, glittery look.
