Fluorite from Okorusu is highly sought after for its stunningly vivid colors of a deep sea green and juicy purple and for their unique zoned phantoms. From around the 1920s, this mine has changed hands several times. It first closed in 1963 until it was reopened in 1988. The Okorusu mine closed in 2014 due to increased stripping and beneficiation problems.

Fluorite’s natural color is clear. The color is known as impurities in the solution that can make fluorite just about any color. Clear fluorite is actually not as common as the greens, purples, and blues we see most often. The rarest of colors are red, black, and pink.
