Ilvaite | Inner Mongolia | CaFe3+Fe2+2(Si2O7)O(OH) | Ilvaite Specimen

A dark, moody gray-black mineral that looks a little like tourmaline. It was, in fact, initially classified as black schorl. Over the years, the name changed periodically as they discovered more about the mineral until they finally landed on Ilvaite in 1811.

Ilvaite has a sub-metallic lustre and a hardness level of about 5.5-6 on the Mohs scale.

Metaphysically, ilvaite is considered a centering and grounding mineral. It supports the root chakra offering protection and stability.
