Nuummite is a metamorphic, orthoamphibolitic rock type first discovered in Finland in Nuuk. The name Nuummite means “from Nuuk”. It has some chaotic chatoyancy similar to pietersite.

These minerals are primarily mined by the Nuummite Nuuk A/S which is owned by the Nuuk commune in Nuuk. Currently, this species name is not approved, but it is currently the widely accepted name for the mineral.
